Liberia ex-leader Charles Taylor get 50 years in jail
Liberia's ex-President Charles Taylor has been sentenced to 50 years in jail by a UN-backed war crimes court. Liberia's former president Charles Taylor was this morning sentenced to 50 years in prison for war crimes at an international war crimes court, in The Hague.
Taylor was found guilty last month of 11 counts of aiding and abetting was crimes and crimes against humanity by supporting rebels between 1996 and 2002 in return for conflict diamonds. He was convicted of offenses including murder, rape, sexual slavery, recruiting child soldiers, enforced amputations and pillage.

Dr Karo Ogbinaka , The chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Lagos branch, , has said that the union will reject the recent change of the university's name.
Dr Ogbinaka said:
We are resisting it, all the unions and the students will resist it, the Alunmus will resist it. The truth about the whole thing is that it shows the level of intelligence of those people in government. Nobody will change Harvard's name, nobody will change Cambridge's name to Winston Churchill University. University of Lagos is a brand, for 50 years. The first university established by Act of Parliament and one man trying to score cheap political point. When people go outside and you ask them what university are you from? What name will you pronounce? They'll ask is it a new university? Is it the name of a toothpaste? It's a senseless thing and are going to resist it.Karo said

After receiving the news of the renaming of the University of Lagos to MKO Abiola University, Students of the University of Lagos organised a protest against the name change.
The University of Lagos was renamed after the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief MKO Abiola.
The students began gathering in groups in the main campus at Akoka, Lagos immediately after President Jonathan announced the decision in his Democracy Day 2012 speech to the nation.

Desmond Hatchett - A 33 yr old US man fathers 30 children with 11 women
At just 33, Desmond Hatchett (pictured above) has thirty children with eleven different women. Nine of those children were born in the last three years.
Desmond's oldest child is 14, while the youngest is just a few months old. His story/situation came into limelight after he went to court this week asking for a break on child support. The state of Tennessee takes half his monthly payments and divides it up, which doesn't amount to much because he makes minimum wage. Some of his baby mamas get as little as $1.49 a month.
Desmond, who claims to know all the names, ages and birth dates of his children, said he had four kids in one year. Twice. He officially holds the record for most children in Tennessee.

D'Banj Signs Fast Rising Pop Star Davido
Dapo ‘D’banj‘ Oyebanjo has signed to his new record label the fast rising pop star David ‘Davido‘ Adeleke. It was confirmed that the signing took place on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at the 19-year-old’s house in Lekki after a five-man meeting involving D’banj, his manager Abisagboola ‘Bankulli’ Oluseun, Davido, his manager Asa Asika and father Deji Adeleke. After the signing, both acts and their crew members then headed out to the weekly Industry Nite at the Oriental Hotels to celebrate. It was earlier reported that D’banj made his first ever post-Mo’Hits public appearance at the weekly gig where he gave a surprise performance with artiste of the night Ikechukwu.
We’re still working to get details of the deal particulars, but sources say talks started weeks before both acts met in the US. D’banj and Davido were both spotted at the famous strippers joint - Diamonds Of Atlanta Gentlemans Club in Atlanta. Davido’s manager when contacted however played down the news of the signing insisting that both parties are still in talks. ‘We are still in talks, that’s all I have to say for now, it could take a day or a year‘, Asa Asika said in a phone conversation. D’banj’s camp was yet to respond as at the time of filing in this report. D’banj recently signed to Mercury Records UK through the G.O.O.D Music label imprint. Davido had until now remained an unsigned act but has in the past year risen to A-list status with just three singles out. He now joins D’banj’s younger brother KSwitch on the label which, according to insiders, will be affiliated to Island Def Jam Africa. Congratulations to Davido.
