After receiving the news of the renaming of the University of Lagos to MKO Abiola University, Students of the University of Lagos organised a protest against the name change.
The University of Lagos was renamed after the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief MKO Abiola.
The students began gathering in groups in the main campus at Akoka, Lagos immediately after President Jonathan announced the decision in his Democracy Day 2012 speech to the nation.
