Veteran Actor David Ihezie Dies At 73 years
Nollywood has once again been thrown into mourning with the death of veteran actor, David Ihezie. The actor was said to have passed away in his home in Enugu after suffering from arthritis for some time. He was 73 years old.

Channels TV Reporter, Enenche Akogwu, Killed in Kano Blasts

31 year old Channels TV reporter, Enenche Akogwu, was today killed during the Kano bomb blasts that rocked the city.
Enenche was shot dead outside the Kano state government house while filming the attacks.
The late reporter graduated from Benue State University in 2004 and joined Channels Television as a reporter in Abuja two years ago. He was later made the station’s correspondent in Kano. He was the winner of Channels Television’s 2011 Chairman’s award and was honoured at the Station’s end of the year celebration.
Akogwu had only returned to Kano two days ago after spending some time in Lagos. So so so sad! May his soul rest in peace...amen.

STRIKE CONTINUES -NLC And Fredral Govt Fail to Reach compromise
The Federal Government and union leaders ended talks late Saturday without a deal to end a week-old strike that has shut down the country, but a threat by workers to halt oil production was put on hold.
“The meeting is not deadlocked, but we have not reached a compromise,” Nigeria Labour Congress president Abdulwahed Omar told journalists after the meeting at the presidency involving a range of government officials broke up.
Asked if they would now begin shutting down oil platforms, he said, “no, we are taking this thing gradually. We are still giving peace a chance.”

Father Rapes 7-Year-Old Daughter
My daddy slipped his fingers into my body, put me on the bed and slept on top of me”, that was how little Miss Blessing Ayibakuro Lambert, 7, from Opolo area of Bayels a State began her jeremiad. By the time the young girl was half way into her sad tale, some of those present were already in tears, wondering what would make a father rape his own daughter. Even the officers and men of the Bayelsa State Police Command, Yenagoa, who were taking note of what the young girl was reeling out could not withhold their emotions over her revelation. While her story was too touching to be ignored, the revelations dropping from her mouth like torrents of water, could not be brushed aside by the police officers and her sympathisers. In a jiffy, the little story teller was overwhelmed by the crowd of listeners, who gathered in droves to snoop with rapt attention the unfolding fairy-tale, good enough to make a thriller, but awful enough to be heard in the 21st century.
The police were enraged. They left no one in doubt that they were going to take action against the randy man, who had committed incest with his own – a child for that matter.
Before long, Lambert had been hurled into the police net and he was telling the police his own part of the melodrama, which has become the talk of town in Yenagoa in recent weeks.
Blessing told the police how her father, a native of Nembe in Nembe LGA of the state, had been forcing her into painful sex and threatening to kill her if she ever leaks the evil practice to anyone. Apparently, unable to really explain to the police how her father raped her daily, Blessing said,“It is my daddy. He fingers me and takes me to bed and sleeps on top of me. It is very painful. He said he would kill me if I tell anybody”.
But Lambert’s bestiality could not go undetected forever. He was caught in the act and reported to the police, who promptly nabbed and took him into custody pending prosecution for child rape.
His arrest was made possible by one of his neighbours, who works with the National Anti-corruption and Volunteer Corps, Ms. Princess Egbe.
Egbe said that although preliminary investigation by her group had shown that Lambert had been sleeping with his daughter for many months before he was exposed, he might have damaged the young girl’s womb, as she was complaining from abdominal pains all the time.
“For about five days I kept hearing the shrill cry of a small child crying behind my house.
It struck me that the girl might be in grave danger and needed attention. I rushed to the house and saw her lying down while her uncle was beating her.
“When I demanded to know what happened, the uncle who identified himself as Kimo, told me that the child had a boyfriend who had been violating her and that she was enjoying the act.
“In shock I advised that she should be taken to the hospital immediately for a check up and treatment. At that time Blessing’s father was not around. So Kimo and her stepmother agreed to take her to the hospital but they did not have money to do so.
“At the hospital, it was confirmed that the girl had been sexually violated but it was not clear who violated her and it was at that point that the need to reveal the person became very urgent.”
Blessing finally opened up and told her interrogators that it was her father who had been raping her. It was that crucial revelation by Blessing that led to her father’s arrest by the police. Blessing has also been taken into protective custody by the police.
“Lambert has been very confrontational, accusing me of making up the story to embarrass him.”
But he can hardly go too far in warding off the allegation because he is not new in the act. His ex-wife, Gift, who now lives in Port Harcourt, after a rancorous marriage, says she was raped and forced into marriage by the same man, a few years ago.
Raping women is pathologically inherent in Lambert’s life because he had done it to me and others before now,” the woman said.
She regretted that her effort to expose the man’s wrongdoing has drawn his ire and that he had threatened to deal with her because of the expose.
She said “I have been living with my three daughters in Port Harcourt after we broke up. He was not a good husband in the ten years that we stayed together. Sometime last year I visited Yenagoa with my second daughter and he called to tell me to allow Blessing to stay with him since he needed someone to keep him company following the involvement of his friend in an accident. Later he said he wanted to take his daughter for a walk and that was how he took custody of Blessing and began to defile her.
“I was in Port Harcourt when somebody called me that my little girl has been raped. I ran to Yenagoa to find that it was true. I have asked my baby severally and she has said it time without number that it is her daddy that has been having sexual intercourse with her. I have no doubt in my mind because I know what he can do”.
“In fact that was how he got me into his house as his wife. I was a teenager when he met me in Nembe. I was staying with my aunty after losing my parents. The man told my sister to tell me that he wanted to discuss something with me in the house. When I got there, he forced me into having sex with him and he was my first. People who heard me screaming in his room reported the matter to my aunt. She was so furious because he lied to her that I had sex with him willingly.
That was how I was driven from home to take refuge with my friend. Some months later he came begging that he would marry me and that was how I ended up with him.
“This man just wants to destroy my daughter’s future as he did to me. This time he will not go free. He has also gone to Nembe to threaten my aunt that he would kill her if I continue with the case. I am begging well-meaning Bayelsans to come to my aid,” the divorcee cried out.
It is apparent Lambert may still get away with the rape of his daughter. Report says he escaped from the police custody where he was detained. As at the time of going to press his whereabouts was still unknown to the police. Will the police get him and will he carry out the threats?

Italian cruise Runs aground in Italy Leaving Three Dead

At least three people were killed and rescuers were searching for other victims on Saturday after an Italian cruise ship carrying more than 4,000 people ran aground and keeled over.
A rescue operation involving lifeboats, ships and helicopters was continuing hours after the 114,500-tonne Costa Concordia hit a sandbar near the island of Giglio on Friday evening. Photographs showed a large gash along its side.
"At the moment, we have about 40 men at work and we're expecting specialist diving teams to arrive to check all the interior spaces of the ship," said fire services spokesman Luca Cari.
"We don't rule out the possibility that more people will be lost.
"This is difficult because the ship is enormous," Cari said, adding that it was lying on its side on the seabed and would probably not sink further.
Passengers said disaster had struck during their evening meal.

"We were sitting down to dinner and we heard this big bang. I think it hit some rocks. There was a lot of panic, the tables overturned, glasses were flying all over the place and we ran for the decks where we put on our lifevests," passenger Maria Parmegiano Alfonsi told Sky Italia television.
Police and passengers quoted on television spoke of some people jumping off the listing, 290-metre-long ship.The multi-storey luxury vessel settled on its side, partly submerged, just a few hundred meters (yards) from the shore. Authorities declined to speculate on the causes of the accident.
"There will certainly be an investigation but at this stage it's impossible to determine exactly what happened," said Italo Spalvieri of the Guardia di Finanze in the nearby port of Livorno.
Many of the 3,200 passengers and 1,023 crew were taken to the mainland port of Porto Santo Stefano where they were given shelter in schools, churches and other public buildings.
The website of the ship's operator, Genoa-based Costa Crociere, had apparently collapsed under the volume of searches but the company set up a helpline to answer public enquiries. Costa said it would cooperate fully with authorities.
There was no word on the identities of casualties.
Most of the passengers were believed to be Italian but people of several other nationalities were thought to be on board.
"We are going through the list of passengers at a reception centre that's been set up but most of the passengers didn't have their papers with them of course, so it's been difficult to get full identification," an official said.

Sources gathered that the official residences of the ex-Speaker as well as that of the Senate President were sold to the 2 of them at give-away prices as part of government monetization policy despite the fact that such buildings did not come under the programme.
Eyebrows were said to have been raised by those who knew the implication of the sales but the government still went ahead with it.The controversy however became more obvious a few months ago when a member of the Speaker alleging that the House leadership wanted to pay hundreds of million of naira to rent the same apartment which was sold to the former Speaker at about 100 million naira.

Boko Haram Sends Threat online Video To Goodluck Jonathan
The leader of radical Islamist sect, Boko Haram has challenged the authority of Nigeria’s president, Goodluck Jonathan in a rare online video, vowing more attacks in a nation increasingly overcome by unrest and divided by religion.
Imam Abubakar Shekau said recent killings of Christians were justifiable revenge attacks and President Goodluck Jonathan had no power to stop the group’s insurgency, in the first video of him posted online, according to Reuters.
The 15 minute video of Abubakar Shekau posted on YouTube is similar in style to messages submitted by other Islamist groups like al Qaeda, a sign of the growing influence other jihadist movements are having on the sect.
Boko Haram, whose name translates from the northern Hausa language as “Western education is sinful”, has been behind almost daily killings in its home base in the largely Muslim northeast, most recently targeting Christians.
“Christians, everyone knows what they have done to us and Muslims … we were attacked and we decided to defend ourselves and, because we were on the right path, Allah has made us stronger,” Shekau says in Hausa, sat in front of two Kalashnikov rifles and wearing a camouflage bullet proof jacket.
“Jonathan, (you) know full well that this thing is beyond your powers,” he added, referring to the president.
Shekau is understood to have taken over control of Boko Haram, which wants sharia law more widely applied across Africa’s most populous nation, after the sect’s founder Mohammed Yusuf was killed in police custody in 2009 following an uprising in which 700 people were killed.
“Everyone knows how our leader was murdered and everyone knows the way the Muslims were killed,” Shekau says, remaining stony faced and calm throughout.
“Catastrophe is caused by unbelief, unrest is unbelief, injustice is unbelief, democracy is unbelief and the constitution is unbelief.”
Boko Haram’s attacks began small scale – usually drive-by shootings on authority figures or drinking joints in their home town of Maiduguri, in the country’s remote northeast corner – but lately have become increasingly sophisticated and ambitious.
In August last year, the sect carried out a suicide car bombing of the United Nations headquarters in the capital Abuja that killed 24 people. On Christmas Day it masterminded coordinated explosions against Christians, including one at St. Theresa’s Catholic a church near Abuja that killed at least 37 people.
The most recent attacks have targeted Christians but dozens of Muslims were killed by the sect last year.
“Anyone who attacks us, we will attack him back even if he is a Muslim. We shall kill anyone who works against Islam, even if he is a Muslim,” Shekau said in the online tape.
Gunmen shot dead four people at a petrol station on Wednesday in the northeast Nigerian town of Potiskum, where on Tuesday suspected members of Boko Haram shot dead eight people.
Boko Haram’s increasingly violent insurgency has become a major security problem for Jonathan’s administration, also facing pressure from nationwide strikes and protests against fuel price increases.
“Four people were shot dead yesterday but I cannot confirm whether the attackers were Boko Haram,” said Tanko Lawal, police commander in Yobe state. Yobe’s government said on Wednesday it has banned the use of motorbikes, which have often been used in Boko Haram attacks, in volatile areas of the state.
